Help yourself / Угощайся
Alice arrives home and immediately opens a box of crackers.
Алиса заходит домой и сразу открывает коробку с крекерами.
Tammy: | You look very hungry. |

Alice: Алиса: | I could eat a horse. |
Tammy: Тэмми: | Didn't you eat dinner while you were babysitting for Mrs. Howard? |
Alice: Алиса: | No. Before she left, she said there was food in the refrigerator, and that I could help myself to the food, but I didn't. |
Tammy: Тэмми: | So why didn't you eat? |
Alice: Алиса: | How could I open another person's refrigerator and take her food? That's impolite. |
Tammy: Тэмми: | Alice, when people say you can help yourself to something, you can make yourself at home. This is a way to make you feel comfortable. |
Alice: Алиса: | In Russia, we usually don't do this with strangers, or even to friends. I guess Americans are more open. |
